You have never seen him in the kitchen? What he does with the whisk is tame compared to what he does with the knives... or the spatula... or the corkscrew! The results are eminently edible, but the preparations are the pinnacle of entertainment. Then there is the running commentary, interspersed with storytelling and punctuated with verbal repartee, which keeps everything perking along. An occasional break - for kilt fittings, adjustments of new sporran chains, opening gifts, etc. - helps keep the pace to where the rest of us can follow. My family usually refers to winter hats as "toques". I don't know where we picked it up, as we grew up on the west coast of the US.
