Help: Have you seen this lost font?

Are there any graphic designers, typographers, or fontophiles out there who recognize this font?

It is similar to, but not, Pacioli. How does it differ, you ask? Well for one thing it was free and Pacioli is not. I downloaded it a few years ago, but I lost it (and its identity) with my personal PC hard drive crash last year. I'm trying to reconstruct some custom stationery I designed, now that I've run out of my supplies.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you don't have any clues to offer, then how about a discussion on why a beautifully designed font can bring a man to near tears? In searching for the replacement, I saw dozens of fonts I'd like to own and use. I haven't a clue as to why that is.

I've never been quite brought to tears by a font, but I do think I know why it seems so important. The font you use is, in the digital age, akin to your own style of handwriting. It can say a lot about you. I myself like to use Bookman Old Style in most of my documents. I'm still looking for a really good font to upgrade to.

Nope, haven't seen that font, te he. Back in my colege days I got the font bug. I had to take a dot metrics printer, set the head as close as possible, then print out one letter enlarged to about half the size of the paper. The pins would punch through the ribbin and scratch the paper leaving a raised and feelable depiction of the letter and the font. I went through a couple of printers that way.

have you looked through http://www.dafont.com? Looks like something free there would be close...

It looks close to many fonts Minion comes to mind, however I think you are looking for a font which includes the boxes and lines around the letter, so I am not completely sure. I will keep looking into it.

Well, as sort of a postscript, I finally found the font I was looking for, "Walrod," and was able to download it for free from a website where I found a lot of my old favorites. I found a similar one elsewhere for purchase named "Pacioli" after the typographer whose work it emulates. "Codex" is also similar (there are different fonts with this same name, though), but much busier.

I found it first at Font Garden , then once I found out what it was called, I found it at the much bigger directory, dafont.com, as suggested above. Once I knew what to look for, it seemed so obvious I felt kind of stupid for not figuring it out before. DaFont has both free fonts and links to purchase some of the more professional ones. I also downloaded quite a few more from Font River.

I think it should be said that most of these that I've downloaded in the last couple of days are display fonts that I would use in graphics projects, business cards, and party invitations, generally not for passages of text, though I have been known to write a Christmas letter in a handwriting font a time or two.
