Off topic (slightly), but Cajunscot: I had no idea that coonss was a term for cajuns. That being said, a most excellent hot sauce is out there called "flaming coonss " and has a picture of a raccoon with a wee bit of a bowel emergency on the bottle. Now that i know the derivation of the term, I wonder if this particular hot sauce originated further south than Kentucky (which is where I found it oh so long ago). Anyway, if anyone knows where to get this hot sauce again, PM me 'cause it was good.

I went to a wonderful Hogmanay party yesterday, lots of Scotch to drink and the rooms were full of men in kilts and lovely ladies with tartan sashes. A great time was enjoyed by one and all.

Now, on to the Burns Supper in a few weeks.

    RLS and Scotch...

Here's another "Scotch" reference from a native Scot, Robert Louis Stevenson:

"The happiest lot on earth is to be born a Scotchman...And, Highland and Lowland, all our hearts are Scotch."

I found this in Fernec Szasz's Scots in the North American West 1790-1917.

    Regards,

    Todd

I bet you it did originate in La.

Mind you, Angola State Prison in Louisiana makes it own hot sauce.
