    Question Burns Supper...Denver area

Anyone know of any suppers going on? All I can find is the St. Andrew's Society supper. No offense intended, but the crowd in their pictures from other events seems a wee bit stodgy and grey haired; and, you have to join their club first! So, anyone know of other burns' suppers around the area?

Addendum: I just looked up the SASC Burns supper and the choice of entrees does NOT include haggis?!?!? What the Heck is THAT about?!?

Definitely need another Burns supper idea...anyone, anyone?

Gi'e the St. Andrew's folks a chance; while the majority of our members are gray-haired, they are anything but stodgy. Don't judge a book by its cover. Have you met these folks before? They might be great fun, and you might miss out on a good time.

Besides, is this your first Burns Supper? If you haven't been to one before, it's best, INMHO, to go to a more traditional one first to see the traditional format, customs, etc.

Most Burns Suppers here in the colonies do not offer Haggis as an entree, simply because most of the attendees wouldn't eat it, or would take a wee bite.

I am not a burns night newbie and the burns supper in Glenwood springs (population 10,000) serves killer haggis along with authentic neeps and tatties. If a wee town caught in a deep canyon with mostly non-scottish-aware hotel guests and locals can serve haggis, then a BIG darn city like Denver can get a bloody life and learn to serve haggis.

BTW, the haggis served in Glenwood last year (before we moved) came from.......DENVER!

OK, now i feel better after that wee rant, 'scuse me

How was I to know whether you've been or not? Honestly, there was no need for a rant.

Besides (and this might be considered blasphemy), a Burns Supper is not all about Haggis -- it is about celebrating the works of Robert Burns. I have been to many Burns Suppers myself, none of them served Haggis as a main course, yet they still managed to convey a spirit of earnestness in their celebrations. If you're there only for the Haggis, you're missing the point.

If you don't like how something is done, instead of grousing about it, why don't you join, get involved and bring your ideas to the table?

And,I hope you're not suggesting that all Burns Suppers who do not serve Haggis as a main course should get a "bluidy life" -- you're always welcome to come to ours in Springfield, Missouri and see what we do. I would hope we wouldn't be judged only on our entree choices.

While haggis was certainly served at the Nor Cal Burns Night last year the main course was roast beef.

Oh, I was meant my last post in a joking manner. Please do not take offense. It's just that the only time of year i can get some haggis seems to be when there's a Burns supper. I eschew the canned stuff and wait ALL year for some haggis at a supper. So, I am quite disappointed that Denver: the biggest, baddest, shiniest city to ever scrunch up against the rockies....cant seem to have decent haggis-filled Burns suppers.

So, back on topic: anyone know of any Burns Suppers going on in the Denver Metro area?

How about holding your own? Seriously, one of the best Burns Suppers I go to is a private gents-only Burns Night, only about 20 members.

Sometimes the small Burns Suppers are the best ones.

My apologies for not seeing your humour.

    Regards,

    Todd

I haven't found one down here it the Springs either. If you hear about another, let me know. Another option might just be for a bunch of us Front Range Kilties to get together for our own, even if we don't have the haggis
