I blame society for conditioning us to think that everyone over a certain age (say, 18) who is part of a couple is either married or headed that direction. And as far as whirlwind romances, they worked well in the WWI and WWII days, but in these times of high divorce rates, I think Sinatra had it right when he sang, "nice 'n' easy does it every time."
