The latest kilt...
Photos forth coming, but I started on kilt #8 last night.
This one is in a canvas that just is heavy enough to make a kilt from it. Any lighter, and it wouldn't work at all.
It's a woodland camo pattern with fairly small "splotches." I'm going to have the pleats running from each side toward the back (I can't remember if this is Kinguisse or Reverse Kinguisse).
I'm pulling 12 hour work days from now until mid February, so it will be slow going. I started last night, and I have the box pleat and the first two pleats to it's left ironed in. Nothing happened tonight, as this was my ritualistic TV Monday. Tomorrow, I will get more pleats done and try to get some initial shots off. I also have to go somewhere to get some nylon buckles and some nylon web straps. Or should I do traditionally styled leather and buckles?

Good luck. OOOu, Kinguisse.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Yaaaay - the reverse or ghillie Kinguisse - just the thing for the camo fabric.
I think go for the webbing rather than traditional - particularly as you are combining that fabric and a non traditional style.
I wear my kilts in DPM with an old British Army webbing belt with brass fittings, but really ought to get them a belt each. I have been looking for suitable Nylon webbing and 'click' style fastenings sturdy enough to look right and take the strain. I make my kilts 7 to 8 yards long and fasten them just with a belt so I don't want to lose them unexpectedly....

I get 2" duty belts in black (nylon) with a side release buckle from a place on ebay for a reasonable price--they are velcro-adjustable and hold up well and look great with casual/camo kilts. Let me know if you'd like the source and I'll look it up.

Yeah, I wanted something that would still use up a nice amount of fabric (about 6 yards) but was different from the typical knife pleat style. I had just been looking at the UK site when the idea hit me, so I decided to run with it. As a bit of a nod to Freedom Kilts, I'm going with 3.75" deep, 1.5" pleats. I haven't decided yet how wide I want to make the apron.
I'm going to go to the local craft store or fabric store tonight to see if I can find some webbing and nylon fasteners. Maybe 2" wide.

By all means, hook me up. Even if I find something tonight, I'll have the info for later.

I found out today that I've been upgraded. From Friday until further notice, I'll be working 24 on 24 off. Hopefully I won't sleep so much come Saturday that I get nothing done on the kilt.
Today's trip turned up nothing for straps. I only made it to the craft store, though. Family time won over kilt pieces shopping. There's always tomorrow. At least I should be able to get more pleats ironed in tonight.

Slow going on this project. I've been under the weather for the last few days. Haven't been able to find myself any straps or buckles. Not that it matters... I have maybe 6 pleats done. As soon as this dreaded lack of energy and the narcoleptic tendencies I have had for the last few days go away, this project should start screaming along.

Oops, just checking in. Here is a link to the belt I have purchased in the past--for under $12 delivered, it makes a nice sturdy casual belt. I haven't bought one in a year or so but they are using the same photo so I hope they are the same. They have an inside velcro adjustment and are nice and burly.
