When people are simply being rude, as in a few of your situations the best thing to do is to ignore them.
After all if you wrestle a pig, all you're going to do is get dirty and annoy the pig.
Know up front that wearing a kilt is seen by some as unusual. Most of my immediate family have been very supportive and even think that it's pretty cool.
My 15 year old Step-Son finds it embarrassing to be with me when I'm wearing a kilt. I have on a couple of occasions chosen not to wear a kilt, simply to help him be more comfortable.
Hang in there kilts have a long tradition, and have been around longer than trousers.
