Custom Run of Carolina Tartan...Who's In?

If anyone would know this, you would...Does UNC-Chapel Hill have a "Tarheels" tartan, or would the Carolina tartan cover this issue?

UNC-CH does not have an official tartan. I've thought about the possibility of trying to design one, but have not pursued it. I went there for undergrad and grad school, but am hesitant about the whole idea.

I guess it gets down to is this: once there is an "official" tartan for an organization then you're stuck with it. My greatest fear is that someone does decide to design one and it turns out to be boring, ugly, hard to pleat in a kilt, etc. Carolina blue is a subtle color- tweak it a little one way or the other and it looks bad, too turquoise, too electric blue. Since I figure that Carolina blue would play a big part in the design of the tartan, the whole endeavor is riskier. Even if someone could come up with a good design, the Board of Trustees would have to approve it, not the easiest thing in the world...

Furman

UNC-Greensboro


I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, and I say this as someone who loves Chapel Hill AND tartan, but I kindly, humbly, ask that if someone does decide to pursue this they do so with much deliberation and trepidation...
