Historically exchange rates have swung around like a pendulum.
One thing I have noticed is that we are having a spate of TV ads over here inviting visits to the USA - the last time that happened was following 9/11.
There is even an ad just for California, complete with a cameo appearance of the "Terminator."
Fuel prices are rising all over and that has a knock on effect on other prices. Every time I fill my car tank it seems to have gone up. We are now paying an average of £1.07 for a litre of petrol.

OK. The upside is exports increase.
The dollar-to-pound exchange has been floating around $1.95 to $2.00 for quite a while. When I was in Scotland in 2003 it was better at $1.55. I'm going back this July for 2 weeks. I hope it's no worse than $1.95.

I feel for the pain McClef,
In 2000 petrol was "only" 82p/litre in Northern Ireland, 1.07 OUCH!
I am sure the wages have not increased by that percentage.

Many folk in Northern Ireland have the option of popping over the border to fill up in the Republic where it's cheaper!
