I think my favourite 'Northern' term is nichchem - I think that is how it might be spelt - meaning brainless. The first ch as in loch, the second is pronounced as k as it is the same derivation as chemistry.
A chem, as legend would have it, is the writing - or inscribing - put into the head of a golem to make it active.
