I had to cut mine sideways to keep the pattern from looking wrong. Great thing is that 2 yds of continuos fabric matches up perfectly with my 22" length plus a 2" hem and gives me 3 peices 24"x58"-60" long.
(22"+2"= 24"x3=72" or 2yds)
I sewed the ends together in the interior pleats so they will only be visable from the inside of the kilt.
