BoldHighlander, thanks for sharing that. It's probably safe to can a lot of things with the boiling method, it was done that way for a long time, but I wanted to make sure it's brought up for safety reasons... Well, I would think salsa is fairly acidic too, and a little more like the jellies and jams. Boy... I am having flash backs of grandparents and other relatives having storrage rooms full of empty jars waiting for use.

If you do try kilted gardening give us a post or two. I don't think a wool kilt would be the best to garden in either. The canvas is just a whole different beast, and feels right for that kind of work.

    Ted,

The apron idea is a good one, I often wear one, too. If it is cool outside I wear a Carhartt vest with big pockets, when warm a work apron handles all the tools. It also keeps wear and dirt off the tops of my legs which are usually the first place to wear when working.

And, as some have pointed out, I do pay more attention to proper posture and lifting methods while kilted (laughing.) Especially in the front yard.

Yep I strip mine right off, too (sorry, String.) Instead of struggling out of p***s and leaving trails of dirt all over the floor, it's a darn sight easier to strip off the kilt right as I am walking in the door and heading for the shower.

Thanks Moosedog, LOL, I tried to muddle through an explaination of the whole shower thing and stuff, but it looked wrong every time I read it. So glad you cleared that up in your post. Guess you don't have to wear your gardening kilt around inside the house either. Sorry though String.

We were all probably raised and live in different ways and lifestyles... No ill intentions ment.

The only time that I do not wear a Kilt is when I am sleeping or bathing. I did have a few worrisome moments while trying to clean the gutters on my house however.

I'm kind of wondering if a plastic clip, like you put on a bag of chips, would solv some of those problems during gardening. That is, clip the front and back of the bottum edge of the kilt together between the knees and kind of close it off a bit. Sorry String. I think the UKs and some of the other kilts have snapps that do the same thing. Hey, why not use a clip like thing in place of a kilt pin and have it ready for when you have to climb up things or crawl around under something?

    Just a thought.

Oops, never mind on that idea for the clip. Just tried it and it doesn't really work too well. Sorry.

For what it's worth, I went back to kilted gardening today. I had a couple more fig trees to pop out of the ground. After Pants gardening at the same tasks yesterday, I can say there is a difference. It's a bit easier to dig in a kilt, and I don't miss having to pull up my pants all the time. I don't have big enough hips to keep them up, and squeezing a waist with a belt doesn't work with digging.
Still the anti-kilt-gardening people would say wear overalls or suspenders. They would also say you could wear the hip hop crotch pants to do gardening in.

I... don't think hip hop crotch pants are a good alturnative to gardening in a kilt. Overalls are fine sometimes, but they can get in the way as well as caught on the straps by branches. Same with the suspenders, but I will point out that both of these can make the pants croch problem worse when reaching upward.

But suspenders and a kilt--now there's a worthy gardening outfit.
