The One Show
The One Show, a topical show on BBC 1 TV in the UK was a real treat this evening - 25th Jan - Burns Night, when one of the presenters Hardeep Singh Kohli, a Sikh, with turban, but born in Glasgow, wore a plain blue/black kilt throughout the show. The Article about Robert Burns, toward the latter quarter of the show, had two other male presenters, Adrian Chiles and Phil Tufnel, a cricketer, don kilts. The latter did the usual trick of putting it on backwards, but corrected this. The main presenter, Adrian Chiles, stated that it was the most comfortable garment he had ever worn (something we all know!) but he hoped he could keep his legs together in front of the cameras. A real treat - catche it on:

and enjoy.

Many thanks for that link, Mike. I rarely catch that programme - 6.00pm is too early for me to start watching TV - so it was good to see their wee piece on Rabbie Burns.
Hardeep is, like many of us, an avid kilt-wearer and is, also like many of us, a patron of TFCK and Geoffrey (Tailor) Ltd of Edinburgh. The black kilt he was wearing on the TV show is one of Howie Nicholsby's TFCK kilts. Here is a photo of Hardeep, me and actor Alastair MacKenzie (Archie in the BBC's "Monarch of the Glen") taken in London last Summer:
Oh, and welcome to X Marks, by the way!
Take care,
Ham.

I saw the show too, thought it was great. Me, the wife and mam and dad where all sat with haggis and chips while watching it!
The presenter Adrian, said if he where even 1 percent scotish, He'd wear a kilt all the time. Its a shame that people still feel they need to be 'qualified' to wear a kilt.
Hamish, Fantastic kilt! I want one just like it!

Not being in the UK, I can't see the video. But welcome to Xmarks, anyway.
Or rather - I see you don't need the welcome, but congrats on your first post.
Regards,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

Welcome, Miket! I can't see the video myself and envy those that can.
Hamish, I see that Alistair is wearing the MacK worn by the Seaforths. Did he have it box-pleated? I'm getting primed to find one for myself. Although, I think I will pass on the red horsehair. I've noticed that the Scots, over there and over here, like to wear their hose down to the ankle. I'll have to give that a try sometime. What was the occasion of the photo shoot?

Hi McGurk,
As you will know, the tartan is the Northumberland, also known as the Shepherd Check and the Falkirk tartan. The kilt was tailored for me two years ago by Geoffrey (Tailor) Ltd of The Royal Mile, Edinburgh - and I love it!
Take care,
Ham.

Hi Jack,
As I recall, Alastair's kilt was pleated to the white stripe and not box-pleated at all - but since we were busy chatting rather than standing back admiring each other's kilts, I would not be too sure - especially after all this tme! I agree, the red sporran was totally OTT, but then that style (not necessarily colour) should really be worn only by the military, or pipers in full-dress.
Scrunched, or folded, down hose? Yes indeed! This works very well when dressed casually - but only with boots. It just looks dreadful if done with shoes (all a matter of visual balance!). You will see plenty of examples of hose worn down with boots and up with shoes, in my 15 page photo album, linked below.
The occasion was an event in Central London, in the grounds of Lincoln's Inn on The Embankment. It was the first of what is hoped to become an annual event known as The London Gathering. www.thelondongathering.com
Take care,
Ham.

It was good to be able to catch the show (I rarely watch the programme usually) as I was otherwise engaged in Dumfries when it was on.
I am not normally a big fan of Giles Brandreth but thought his presentation on Burns was good.
