Or you could take an old pair of overalls, split the inseam, and start sewing pieces of old pants legs and so on together. Make an overall kilt one pleat at a time, LOL!
That's not too far off, in function, from wearing a full tool apron with a kilt though.
Just a bunch of earthy gardening thoughts.

Just as a weird side note on gardening, these rainstorms that are coming our way from California must be big. I get weird panicky feelings, almost electrical feeling behind my eyes, when the sky is working on storming. I'm not too worried if that sounds crazy because all six of my cats are going nuts too. It seems like the neighbors' dogs all around me are a bit jumpy as well. I think part of what's going on for me is my alergies with the desert mold waking up just before the storms come, then sporing madly.
I hope the rain doesn't get too wild for you up there Moosedog. Hope everything is Ok over in California too.
Guess we'll see how a kilt does in a storm.
* I didn't bother going out into the rain at all. I just didn't feel well.

I understand that the California storm is pushing moisture up here into the pacific nw & we're suppose to get snow tonight in my neck of the woods!
Take care!

I was just talking to someone a bit ago kind of up toward you, and they were getting rain. It's much needed. California has those mud slide issues though. Kind of funny that your snow is our rain in the winter time. Get out there in a kilt if you feel like it, LOL!
I'll go ahead and throw in here, that I have been getting things ready for the harvast of rain water while wearing a kilt: moving containers and hoses. Haven't had a problem, but I don't have to climb up and check the gutters in a kilt thankfully, LOL!
The air has a moist feeling right now down here, and it was fairly warm today. Not too sure when the California rain will get here. I was very glad to be wearing a kilt while hopping around the brier patch today.

I'm wearing a Buzz Kidder khaki to paint my motor scooter. After I finish the paint job, I'll turn it back into a casual kilt for summer wear by getting some Rit dye and changing it to a different color - possibly maroon, or a dark brown.

Sounds interesting; let us know how the dying project goes. I've kind of wondered about that and how it would work out. Good luck with your painting project too.
Thanks for posting here too. I'm glad everyone has given their input.

Yipes! Hope String doesn't stay away from this thread because we teased on her a little. I haven't seen her logged on for a while though. Sorry String. Hope all is well... and not too cold.

The rains finally got here this morning and pretty much just keep coming. It's a nice slow rain which is very good. Usually all the rain comes like if someone dumped a giant bucket of water on us. Other times, it comes with very high winds and is sideways rain. I might go out there in my BK today, but I really don't want to go out there in the first place... I'm running out of grapefruit in the house, so I might have to, LOL!
It will very much help my trees and plants. I've put in a passive rain collection and watering trench grid system for this rare event. There's a bit of clay in the soil, so it does a good job of holding the water long enough for the plants to enjoy it.

All is well, not cold at all really. I went home for the weekend is all. Only dial-up there so I didn't bother, I do have pics of Yeti in his kilt and such from the weekend though.

That's good, glad you're doing OK, String. I'm sure everyone will enjoy the pictures.
* I'm moving the following over here from my post in another thread.
String, I am lucky to have this little patch of land. Out here in the Phoenix area, we can grow different crops all year around. When I moved to my current property, about eight years ago, I started a microfarming experiment. It's just a regular 1/8 acher lot with a small trailer home on it. I saw right away that I could, if I weren't a meat eater, grow all the food I need. A few years back, I narrowed the experiment down to just desert crops, but I left the citrus and a few fig trees, and some grape vines. I don't really even eat the grapes anymore, but I use the leaves in place of lettus or stuff like that. Stuffed grape leaves are good too.
I also studdied and experemented with gray water reuse... how lovely... I looked into all kinds of things, but the desert plants are what I think were the most important. The neighborhood has changed so much from when I got here, that I'm a little out of place with what I'm doing. That's Ok, I learned what I learned.
Right now, I've geared everything over to sulcata tortoise food for several people and I have been shutting down most of the experiment because I need to rest. I've learned a lot though.
Just to make you a little more jealous, String, at one time, I had almonds, peaches and apricots here, and tomato plants that lasted for three years. Then there was the vegetables... And I had a compost wall going for a while. Compost is always fun. Had a paper shredding biz going on the side to fuel that.
They've built a freeway just about across the street and I'm guessing Walmart will buy the area or something. I might move, but I wouldn't mind living in the middle of a Walmart parking lot, LOL!
I love eating corn right off the stock or just grazing out in the garden... Yep, it's the lifestyle of a bug.
* I do not have any degrees in horticulture or agroculture, and this was not a formal scientific experiment.
