2008 ......so far so good
well I started my year (really) on the 16th....I took a written test for a Fire Dept. expecting to fail ( cause honestly....the way things have been going the past year and a half it would be par for the course!)
I passed...and today I took the practical, and physical agility test.....and I'm glad to announce that my interview is on Tues the 29th!
if I pass that then I get an interview with the Chief.
one of the reasons I tested with this Dept. was that the Honor Guard guys wanted me to test due to my ability to play the Bagpipes.
A little back story:
I dont remember if I talked about it here or not but last summer I played bagpipes for a firefighter (ret.) from my (part time) Dept.
the Honor Guard helped out with the Funeral and I was requested to play some tunes. they were begging the Batt. Chief there to hire me on the spot when they found out I was a firefighter as well. but he said I would have to test like everyone else.
well Fast forward to now.
I have a Captain (also on the Honor Guard)whohas helped me out in studying for these tests. and is going to "put in a good word for me" with the oral boards.
so if all goes well by March I will be a full time Firefighter again at one of the top paying Depts. in the area!

I also remember last year presented a few other challenges for you as well (I was thinking about this just the other day, in fact). Congratulations! Let us hope that this is a sign of things turning around for you.
All the best,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

Best of luck to you KFP. Lat year truly was an "annus horribilis". This one's got to be better, and looks like it has started that way for you.
