I'm looking for a frugal beginning, myself. Sadly, most retail outlets (SWK included) don't have much of a selection, as far as tartans go. I would really like to get a Buchanan in both modern and hunting, but few people have the modern, and finding the hunting has proven to be very difficult. That is, unless I want to spend an obscene amount of money for a "traditional Scottish weave" of imported heavy grade wool.............. THAT option is not in the budget!

If it's any consolation to the frugal and the newcomers, there was talk in another thread that SWK will be restocking and, apparently, getting some new stuff in the near future.

So a a little more patience may pay off...difficult, I know, but it may offer you some more options.

I have to chime in with a GREAT experience from Frugal Corner: I e-mailed Mark. He responded within a couple of hours and gave me the phone number where to call him. I left a message, and he responded within a couple of hours with a return call to me. This was on a Tuesday. He told me the shipment would go out the next day (Wednesday). By Friday, the package from FC was at my doorstep! A two day turn around...EXCELLENT!!
As someone else mentioned, the key is to check the inventory list...if you want it fast, it has to be on the inventory list.
Happy kilting!!

Just to thow in my lot- I have 3 Stillwaters, one Amerikilt, and one handmade tank. The heavyweight Stillwater is as close to my tank as I think you can probably get in an off the rack kilt. I am VERY happy with it. The other two SWK's I have are acrylic, and as previously stated, are very prone to snags. I have four cats, so I don't think I'll be getting any more acrylic kilts.

My one encounter with FC was excellent. I ordered a kilt, had it in the door seven days later. I will probably order from them again (assuming SWK doesn't start stocking what I want).

I ordered a kilt from them last Tues 22nd. Got a confirmation email back soon afterwards that night. Got a shipping Number on Wed. and a personal email from Mark confirming it had been mailed that day. Received it Sat. (Flooding halted Sat. delivery MN to CA). No complaints here, quite satisfied.

I ordered a belt and buckle (both in stock) on the 5th and have not heard from anyone after repeated emails and phone messages.

True enough, but, in contrast to that, I also ordered a kilt and sporran for my son from SWK and had it Saturday morning along with an email from Jerry. An answered email or phone message would at least let me know more than the fac that they have my money.
