You should head down to the Newark Holiday Inn on Feb 16 for the Metro Cup bagpipe competition. Some of the best pipers in the world from Scotland, US, and Canada will be there. And yes, they sell beer.

Hmmm...Piper's Cove isn't that far from the Holiday Inn in Newark.
Hmmm...might be interesting if a bunch of us show up unannounced before our Scotland Yard pub crawl.

No visit to NYC is complete wthout calling in at 120, W 44th Street - just around the corner from Times Square.

Hi Gilbert, you are too kind!
I was invited to take part in the 'Dressed to Kilt' charity fashion show at last year's Tartan Week in NYC, but I was unable to leave the United Kingdom at that time. The promise of a similar invitation for the 2008 event was made - but I've heard nothing, so I guess I blotted my copybook with that one! I should love to be there again, especially during Tartan Week, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen this year. I'm hosting a kilts weekend at my home in June, after which I am pretty much committed to visiting Scotland and then Palm Springs CA in September/October. These trips all cost serious money and I think I'm going to have to give NYC a miss this year. I'll try to schedule something for 2009.
Take care,
Ham.

If the missus isn't working on the 16th then i think I will make the trek to NJ. Can it be done by train as I don't relish driving back to Long Island after a pub crawl?

I can't find much on this event except for the following:
The Metro Cup Solo Invitational
Date 02/16/2008
Type Competition
8:00am Amateur events; 1:00pm Open events.
Tickets $30
Location Holiday Inn North
Contact Eric Stein
Phone 631-241-5757
Email stein_eric@emc.com
$30 might be a bit much for a quick "how do you do? We're just stopping by".
First to Piper's Cove and then to Scotland Yard may be a better plan. Thoughts?

Hate to have to choose, but I'm set on Piper's Cove, maybe both, but we'd have to start real early! Or Divide and Conquer, then we all meet up at Soctland Yard and compare notes?
