I can't speak for Gairloch's cost, but the cantle alone retails for almost GBP40.

That is a nice cantle! What is the source???

Dirk - The sporran looks very nice and usable, and I also have some goof fur that I want to make into a high class dress sporran.

I want to make mine a bit bigger than the norm, and I really don't like the normal way that dress sporrans close.

Give us some detailed "lessons learned" please. What all will you do differently next time?

Any good sources for cantles also.

    Thanks

    Hi,
as I wrote I whould do my next sporran without the stiff Macrolon between the leather and the fur.
Also I whould insert a kind of folded soft leather between the seam of the back piece and the side gusset, so that the rear seam is totaly covered with the black leather strip.
The lock with a strip of leather and a press button is fine.
Maybe I don't make a braided edge on the top of the back piece next time. Instead of that I whould maybe prefer a small strip of soft leather, which I whould sew all around the edge.
Next time I will try to make the inner lining out of black filt.
The cantle and the balls are from Clanart.Com. They have fantastic stuff and the people are very nice.

Wow, looks good. That is inspiration for me to do my own. (After I finish work on my day sporran and after I finish my brother's motorcycle saddle bags) I also am curious how much the various clan art pieces cost.
