I have to vent
OK, my mystery jones has reached critical mass. I was one of the accepted entries in the last UK video contest (didn't win - though my own personal satisfaction is that I was one of the few entries that didn't have copyright violations - entry "Serenity" if anyone cares). Anyway, it has now been 2 months since winners were announced, and still no word about the special edition kilt all entries are supposed to receive. I can't really complain, since it is a free kilt, but I'm starting to go a little nuts.

E-mail them. When I won a kilt from Frugal Corner, I was sure to ask them about it.

Ah, the hippy trippy, never a care world of UK management. I feel your pain, Bro. We know that they'll eventually make good, but when is a whole other story. From what I know it took them forever to issue the prize kilts for the first round of entrants (assuming that they actually have, I only saw the pictures online). Hell, it took about a month for me to get issued my last (and no doubt final) booth voucher, and how hard could that be? Be at peace with your Jones, and this too shall pass.
Best regards,
Jake

UK has contacted us (asked for size, told us something cool was coming). I don't know how long it took to get the first round guys their kilts, but at least they knew what they were getting the day the contest ended (we still don't know anything).
Oh, well, I am sure it will be cool.

"Serenity now!"
Congrats, Adam! Free stuff is almost always cool on some level, particularly when it's free Scottish stuff. Because as we all know, if i's nae Scottish, i's crrrrrrrrrrrap!

It's actually called Serenity because I very blatantly parody the TV commercial in the SF movie Serenity.

Slightly unrelated: what video editing program did you use? I recently bought a sony HD handycam and I have yet to find a good program to edit my videos with. I looked at sony Vegas, but it can not output to HD video apparently. I was impressed with many of the mock-u-mercials and several of them looked almost professional. Where do people get that kind of time?!?

Well, that wasn't an editing software program at all. It was completely done in After Effects, a compositing/CGI program.
However, I am assuming you have a PC. I have heard good things about Vegas, but don't know about it's HD compatability (do you really need HD - do you have an HD camera?). Premier is crap. Speed Razor is supposed to be getting better (though used to be crap, and I've had the president of the company on the phone and told him so. Insight is good, but hard to find in the US (and a little more expensive, or at least used to be). For a while Avid had a free DV download, but I think it is gone, still their low end editor will do everything most people need (unless trying to be in the biz) and is probably your best bet.
If you have a Mac, then Final Cut is great (though I don't like the audio editing).
