I'm considering getting a kilt in The Scots American tartan to honour my wife, but I can't see myself buying a Fraser tartan just because I like it.
I agree. It seems pointless to me to wear a tartan that one has no association with, simply because it has groovy colors. Aesthetics are superficiall and come and go, tastes as to loud, muted, blue, green, yellow or red come and go, but family and place endure.
