What do you do for a living?

Right now I'm unemployed on the civilian side. But fortunately, Mother Army and the National Guard will always love me. I'm a Field Artillery Platoon Leader, soon to be Battalion S-2 when my promotion to Captain goes through.

I've also been (in reverse order)

1) Assistant Project Manager for a construction company
2) Project Manager for a stormwater treatment company
3) Contract Research Programmer at NOAA
4) Application Developer for a small climate change consultancy firm
5) TSA Screener
6) Graduate Research Assistant (Optical Oceanography, interesting but thoroughly useless)
7) Electronic Warfare Technician, USN

I have had a couple of promising interviews in the past few weeks, so my next occupation may be one of the following:

1) Field Maintenance Technician for the wastewater treatment system at a silicon chip making plant
2) Engineering Technician for a storm/wastewater treatment firm
3) Storm water and Environmental compliance consultant specializing in military bases.

All this with a BS in Physics and an MS as mentioned above.

I'm the Assistant Head Electrician (lighting guy) for Southam Hall at the National Arts Centre here in sunny Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Basically I do lighting and special effects for concerts, operas, dance, musicals or anything else that comes through our doors.

What pays the mortgage, bills and kilts is my employment as a manager of gated active adult community. I work part time at a local Wal-Mart in the sporting goods department. As an associate there I provide a behind-the-scenes ministry to my fellow workers. I am a commissioned captain in the Church Army USA.

My prior profession has been as an administrator in hospitals, nursing homes and medical clinics. The last ten years of the prior century I specialized in turning around distressed retirement communities and opening new ones (mainly assisted living facilities).

My most interesting employment was fours years (1981- 85) in Kuwait as a medical administrator of Getty/Texaco Oil Companies. That experience afforded the opportunity to travel extensively through the Middle East. I also was able to travel to northern India, Kashmir and Nepal. With additional trips to France, Germany and the UK it was quite an experience I cherish.

Before that, I documented billing procedures for several telecom companies.

When last answered the question I said this (more or less): I worked many years in the automotive industry in technical writing and publications until it all went ka-ka. Was more or less forced into "retirement" and am now using my creative talents to create calligraphic items including some clan themed things (think the clan badges). I have been doing craft and art fairs for the past year and have my own web site now. Also work part time in a little shop selling fabric.

Well, there is an update from the last time I wrote about what I did. (Deep breath here) I am a psychic. One of the things I used to do when I lived in the big city was working with the police using my talents as a kind of consultant, sorta. When I returned to my home town, I put all that behind me. There is not much call for that out here in cow country. Then last fall I got a call for some help from the Sheriff's office. So now I do some work for them again as needed. It's not like on TV but I have a lot of interesting stories that maybe someday I will write down.
