Personally I go for the idea of fur with a cantel & 3 tassels . But that's just me.

If it were me, I'd sell some else's kidney and buy a sealskin sporran with a silver (not silver plated) cantle and view it as an investment. The $160 sporran I bought in 1970 would now cost over a grand to replace.

I have one plain, brown rabbit fur sporran, and this is how I use it:

That is about as dressy as I can go right now: no jacket yet. However, I'm looking into having a brown corduroy jacket adapted for kilt wear to go with this outfit folowing MacMillan of Rathdown's suggestion, as well as, brown kilt hose.


I do usually like to dress nicely, but formal events aren't a large part of my life right now. I have a couple of three piece suits and so on in case a wedding or something like that comes up.
Hopefully it looks alright...

* The driving cap is a matching tweed to my shoes, though you can't see my shoes. I hav thought of trying to match a tweed jacket to those, but in my mind that is too much matching tweed. Perhaps a corduroy driving hat, tweed jacket, and brown shoes would be a second option.

Thank you Chef. I was made aware of the incorrect placement of the flashes a while back and have corrected that. I am glad that you noticed, though, and thanks again. I will put a note on that post pointing that out.

Just in a days work for a kilt snob; glad to be of service.

Some of them come sewn together but since yours didn't I can't say that your idea is illogical. The only reason they probably go on one side is that the original ones were tied so the loose ends would have been together.

I'm with you. I have one with a silver (not silver plated) cantle and mink. I don't want to know what it would cost to replace it. I know some are big fans of the full mask sporrans, and while I don't dislike them, I much prefer the silver cantle and fur look for formal wear. I think the full mask looks better for less dressy occasions.
