re the Nihilist's story about a chick from the Old Country ragging on him about the kilt being "Scots Only"...hey...ask some of the kiltmakers in Scotland if they want to make it Scots Only. Sounds like tartan and kilts may not be Scotland's most important export but I'm sure that the folks who are involved in their production think that it's swell that the Diaspora want kilts and are willing to pay for them.

And thanks to Father Stan for clearing up the context of that Biblical citation. I figured that it was something like that but didn't know the particulars. I'm sure, however, that anybody who has the nerve to come up to you in the supermarket and start that bit is convinced that they know more about the Bible than you do and wouldn't even slow down to listen to any kind of historical information.

I see we have something in common I too, am a convert.

Sounds like this guy has a great deal of very limited knowledge. He either relies on his own understanding without careful study or he blindly follows others that don't bother to get their facts straight.

I wonder what he would have said if you wore a toga. That would have shut him up.

I'd just ask the stock boy right out: Are you REALLY this ignorant, prejudiced and close minded? What would posess you to even BEGIN to think that I would want to hear your negative and COMPLETELY misinformed opinion on the way I dress?

I like the other response Nighthawk said: "Show me one passage where it said Jesus wore pants". That should shut him up. If not, then ask if he thinks Jesus was a cross dresser b/c he DIDN'T wear pants.

People like the ones who will quote scripture at you in a supermarket are the people who fit neatly into Category 1. No amount of reason or logic or actual fact will convince them that they are wrong. It takes away their medium of control, so the reality doesn't matter. And as Ted said- what fun is life if we can't laugh at each other and ourselves? I tell my co workers all the time that they are on this earth to amuse me, and I them.

You're a priest, correct, Ozman? Many blessings to you, friend.
I agree. And those in category one are there because they feel they have no control over their lives, themselves. They are far more concerned about the speck in someone else's eye that the log in their own.

There's a small problem with that- it's just so much FUN to mess with them! And they make it so easy!

Yes, this is true, but not in the middle of a grocery store where people are trying to shop in peace.
