I'm a hunter safety instructor...and as such I am regularly subjected to the misinformed opinions of people who feel the need to inform me that I am wrong, and why. A fellow instructor and friend of mine, who is much older than myself, taught me to explain firearm and hunting related topics in a way which those unfamiliar with the topic will be able to understand. I like your idea Retro. This guy likely assumes you know nothing about the bible, and by demonstrating that you do you also intellectually smack him in the face.

    Bible thumper and kilt

"divided by truth" may be the internet site that the people with narrow religious convictions want to go to when bothered by the kilt. Don't know which is worse the message or the music.

I am no theologian, but isn't it fair to observe that people of deep and abiding religious faith have somehow always been divided on what, precisely, is True? I'm willing to grant that some people who speak up do so because they believe they are in the right and obligated to do so (and also, in part perhaps, because they lack a certain spiritual maturity, or know how else to deliver the Message). So, it seems to me that a polite way of saying, "I decline the invitation to see things your way," should be sufficient, whether it's about kilts or any other tenet.

    Regards,
    Rex.

Rex, I have to say that when I see a post from you, I go out of my way to read it. You always something very intelligent and insiteful to say. This is no exception. ***I have edited out the rest as it was seen as an attempt to get things stirred up*** Carry on!

    It's why it's called faith/belief.

You are very kind. Really, I was trying to defuse this thread, as much as anything.

And leave it to me to stir things back up...

Can't help it. I'm 1/4 German, 1/4 Irish- and a redhead to boot! Sorry to relight the fuse. I didn't even realize.

I really think that we have to leave anybody's belief system out of it and just treat it as one more example of criticism of the kilt. Just like any situation where any of us get a negative comment, we go through a lot of possible retorts that we can toss back at the critic. It's a matter of faith...faith in the fact that the kilt is a man's garment and that it is acceptable to be worn in public. Anybody criticizes, it's a simple mater of saying, "Sorry...I don't agree with you, it's something that men wear and I have every right and intention to wear it."

Granted some critics can be more obnoxious than others but that just come with the territory.

I have to second this one. Rex's responses are always intelligent, humorous, classy, or some combo of the three.

Sounds like a good plan. Being that I was a communication major in college, I'm always looking for a way to diffuse any potential conflict/defensive conversation. This is very succinct and respectful to the opposing party. One can't really argue - all one can do is respect the differing opinion.
