Our three legged beagle, Lilly May, has been totally beside herself since she heard the news.

I already see a lot of Beagles in my practice. I imagine I'll be seeing a lot more in the next few years. I must say, they are sweet things, but I could never stand the noise-every time we hospitalize or board one, we all have to wear ear plugs! Certainly preferable to some of the other breed problems though. Still, remember-EPILEPSY, pretty common in Beagles.

    Be well,

We have a beagle/something large mix. He's very sweet but can be outsmarted by a box of rocks. He has no beagle instincts, except to lick people and pummel them with his tail. He's probably 50+ lbs so that's quite a blow.

The warehouse I worked in for 5 years had a beagle (belonged to another employee). She was a great dog. The only reason I didn't go for a beagle this time was that our place is small and beagles love to bark at everything. Great dogs though.

There was a story on NPR this morning that summed up a lot of what I tell people about beagles.

...not a beginner's dog as beagle rescue people will tell you.

We've been pretty lucky with our little bugger. He's stubborn as hell, like all beagles. Many people mistake this trait for stupidity, but beagles are a lot smarter than they let on! His baying is only occasional and tolerable.

The only maddening aspect is when he gets loose: all calls to come back are ignored as his nose takes over and off he goes! He's usually good for a two or three hour jaunt (we live in the country), and he comes home exhausted and smelling like hell - always finding something foul to roll in.

    But we love him...!

    Great Dogs.........Hunting and Companion
Used to have three (13 Inches)
    Great Rabbit Dogs
But Once again....not many rabbits here in south where I live...So switched over to bird hunting (quail) had setters for years then went to the best bird dog around German Shorthair Pointer...and then in the last 10 years bird hunting has gone to almost nothing.....If my memory serves me right a GSH won best in show a couple years ago and she really stole the show....
Wonder how good I would look bird hunting wearing my kilt.....lol

We had one that we got from the shelter for several years. We'd take him across town with us to softball games and such. He'd stand up in the bed of the truck next to the cab and HOOOOWWWWWWLLLLLL!!! Friends could hear us coming for blocks...especially if he saw a squirrel! They said it was our warning siren...

I have a beagle/basset mix and I love that little pain in the butt. He's a rescue. I actually picked him up on the side of the road. After spending months putting up posters and looking for the owner, I decided to keep him. I've had him for about two years now. He's stubborn, he's ruled by his nose, and he has some emotional issues, some seemingly obsessive/compulsive behavior, and he HATES to be touched certain ways... My wife and I suspect he was abused.

Despite all that, he really is a good dog and generally goes out of his way to keep us happy. I'm really glad I pulled over that one day in March two years ago.
