I agree Puffer. The sheeps wool backing on your sheath is a nice touch, but how much thicker does that make the profile?

Even in Georgia anything over 3 inches could not be used in public buildings or similar venues. I got it for when in the country and mountains.

Actualy very little. It depends on the "hide", but I use an inexpencive "sheared hide" ( total thickness is about 1/8" & compresses with wear ) Plus any sheath I make to wear in a sock (or boot) is made of 1/8" thick leather, so when it is added up, the total thickness of the sheath with the backing adds only 3/8" to the width of the knife.

The major advantage, is as I said, comfort. The wool absorbs the sweat, plus the sheath dose not rub your leg raw.

The extra length is due to the top of the handle needing to be below a 2.5" kilt belt. The extra length on the inside is so I could conceal the rivets behind the knife. After this photo, I added another rivet behind the handle to "pinch" the loop shut about 3" down.

Isn't that place amazing??? Every time we pass that exit I try my best to stop in and browse for at least a few minutes. My wife usually confiscates my wallet beforehand..

Smokey Mountain Knife Works is HUGE! However, we found that many of the staff at the various booths have little or no knowledge of what is available in the other sections of the megastore. We had to search for an hour to even come close to what we wanted. I would imagine it would take many hours to even come close to seeing everything. While there are many booths dedicated to different themes such as historical knives, there were also many dedicated to specific manufacturer's lines. And, the catalog offerings are run by a totally separate group. Still, for anyone with an interest in blades, it is well worth the trip. While in Pigeon Forge we ate at a place called the Apple Barn or something similar (behind where "Alabama" used to have their show and a huge antebellum plantation home that is upside down). Other than the knife works and the restaurant, we GREATLY prefer Asheville!
