I'm okay about non-pipers wearing piper hose. But, the military horsehair sporran looks comical on non-pipers. Sorry, no offense intended.

There may be two meanings to "piper". White hose commonly considered Piper Hose and the socks above that are similar to piper hose in style but come in a few different colors.

I'd steer clear of the white just because they don't look as nice with most outfits.
Wow, those look good. Where'd you get those?

Like I said, I'm not trying to start a fight, but we all have our preferences for style. By the same token, I don't like it when we pipers are required to wear an argyll jacket and waistcoat with a glengarry. I just don't get mixing military style with non-military.

    Hey Kilted in Maine
I get my "piper"/"pipe" hose from IrishKilts.net and have them in all the different greens and blues. They tend to be larger on top so they easily fit my rather large calfs (sp) (22"). I'm not a piper either as I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, but really like the hose from them. They hold up well to wear and I keep them up with the large sized garter ties from Tartan Museum. They are very similar to the ones shown already on this thread.

Scottish Lion carries Pipers Hose in a variety of colors including true white for $22 a pair, and if you order $100 shipping is free. Following is there description:

Featuring "popcorn" tops, these hose are very popular with pipe bands and anyone who wears the kilt. 80% acrylic and 20% nylon. Warm wash only. Colors available: Navy, White, Lovat Blue, Lovat Green, Bottle Green, Highland Green, Charcoal, Stone, Arran, Black

Although not wool they are very comfy, fairly thick, and attractive with their patterned tops.

Is it a fashion faux pas for non-pipers to wear these?
Personally I think it's a fashion faux pas for pipers to wear these.

Those are Gaelic Themes Piper Hose, 70% wool / 30% Nylon. A lot of the vendors here carry them.
