I know Ferintosh mentions the ability, but I don't know how wide spread that is. I really don't recall ever seeing laundry mats while there before.
An excellent question. Remember, I was there for 3 weeks. Only a handful of B&Bs accommodated my need for a clothes washer and dryer, but I knew this in advance based on advice. So, I took only drip-dry tech shirts (by Ex-Officio, Columbia, or Orvis) and some woolite packets and washed such in the bathtub more times than not. Also, wash-clothes were not in widespread use in Scotland, either (I don't know about now), so I took a micro-fiber wash-cloth (the Container Store) that repelled bacteria. If you're taking electric appliances, like a hair-dryer, don't forget to take an adapter. Also, purchase a phone card or have your cell phone upgraded for international use. At the time I was there, it was difficult to find convenient public telephones.
