Anyone know this kilt vendor in UK?

Thank you, we are a handsome race of men. If, however you were referring to the tartan described as Modern MacMillan or some such, you have been mis-led. It is not a MacMillan tartan. As Fedgunner has said, it is a kick *** tartan, but it most definitely isn't a MacMillan tartan.

I still like it or I wouldn't have ordered it but when asked by people seeing me wearing it I would like to give them an accurate answer.

and, allowing for all the usual variation problems with pictures/monitors etc the sett and colours appear to be the same.

So perhaps it is a MacMillan tartan after all.. :buttkick:

Nope. There are three MacMillan tartans: Dress (yellow and red) Hunting (predominately green) and Ancient (which looks something akin to Buchanan without the white stripe), and that's it.

Both the Buchanan and the MacMillan tartans are offset, with a green background. This tartan has a "square" sett and a black background.

The so-called "MacMillan" tartan (also marketed as Modern MacMillan) owes more to Buchanan as the white stripe of that clan remains, albeit re-positioned to the center of the sett, bisecting the background.

It would probably be more accurate to describe this tartan as "Black Buchanan" than to call it a "Modern" MacMillan.

The final arbiter of what constitutes MacMillan Tartan is the Chief of the Clan MacMillan who has made it clear that this is not a MacMillan tartan.

Well I was trying to point out that that the tartan is on more than one kilt supplier website so the nomenclature is not just down to the one source.

Certainly the yellow stripe is reminiscent of Buchanan but no doubt the Clan Chief would equally reject it as such.

So is the MacMillan Clan Chief able to do anything about this? I guess that could be difficult.

I still like it so guess I will have to find a name for it. Harold MacMillan was a British Prime Minister so maybe I will call it "Harold MacMillan Modern" or something.

There isn't much point in us kicking each other butts over it and I am not expert enough to gainsay the objections that you raise. I have cited two separate suppliers and as one of them is Nick (Scotweb and STA) maybe he can supply some light on the situation?
