MacMillan modern black tartan

Well it's pretty clear that the tartan cannot claim to be official and that means it has to be a fashion tartan, yet it's surely still deserving of a name of some sort.

I would say that of course being the proud owner and wearer of this tartan!

As the tartan is being produced and marketed as a MacMillan is there anything that Lord Reay can do to make them desist from using the name of the Clan in the title?

George MacMillan of MacMillan and Knap is chief of the Clan MacMillan. I can not comment on what steps he may, or may not, take to remedy this situation. However, given the probable origins of this sett, it might be more appropriate to call it "The Black Buchanan" tartan.

It really is a kick-*** tartan! I think it makes up into a great looking kilt, and would probably look good as trews as well. And, the more I think about it, the more I think I ought to register the name "The Black Buchanan" and invent a whole history to go with it!

Can't wait to see you kilted in "it"!

Guess as there is no Clan Chieftain to object you could get away with that but surely it has an original designer would they need to be consulted?

Let's see... the last Buchanan Chief went to his rewards in 1919, having left no issue. But wait! There was a 'secret" marriage that took place in Venice in 1915 between The Buchanan and a beguiling (gasp!) German woman (lady being too fine a word for this whelp of the Wilhelmstrasse Hun) followed by the birth of a son who she taught to despise all things Scottish...

But if that's all a trifle too "Bulldog Drummond" then maybe it should be one of those highland Regency romances... Waddaya think?

Surely a legitimate heir would have to be proved to the satisfaction of the Lord Lyon or some such and the son would be getting pretty elderly by now!

Actually the chiefly line may exist in, of all places, California. The Clan Buchanan Society should be looking for William McMurchie VIII or his son, William IX... and before too many of you poo-poo this remember: The Maguires of Fermanagh have resided in Virginia for over 200 years, the MacCarthy Mor lives in Australia, and The O'Rourke lives in Russia. And wasn't it an obscure opera buff living in Edinburgh who proved after twenty years in court that he was the MacDonell of Keppoch?
