Ghillies are/ were so good at their trade [huntin stuff] that the British Army started recruiting them in WWI [the Land Warriors will correct my feeble memory] as snipers/ special forces and the forces still wear Ghillie Suits.

The regiment you have in mind is/was The Lovat Scouts and whilst they did indeed do sterling service in both World Wars, I think and I stand to be corrected here,that they were formed during the Boer War.
