    It really must be frustrating to wanna learn the pipes and have no available instructor.

    Unfortunately, it's one instrument that requires one-on-one teaching. I've heard plenty of self-taught pipers and w/o even asking it's blatantly obvious they've had no instructor. Ya gotta have a tutor telling you what you're doing improperly and when you get it right.

    There are audio/visual training aids, but they're supplemental. There are a number of instructors who teach via streaming video. I've heard mostly good and some bad. That may be worthwhile, though I can't recommend anyone in particular.

    There's an old Asian axiom... "When the student is ready, the master will appear".

    In what area of NC do you live?

    If you are east of Huntersville, there are some pipe bands in the Triad.

    I live in Gastonia. I know it's like like 30-40(?) minutes from Huntersville, but due to my schedule I can't make that.

    There is a fantastic piper called Jori Chisolm who does lessons over the net /webcam etc. google him he is a great player and nice guy.
