This all sounds sort-of familiar? Haven't we done this before?

    BUMP!

I am resurecting this thread to announce that, with great regret and after much soul-searching, I am postponing The Storrington Gathering 2008 to early June 2009.

In spite of my E-mailing, earlier this month, some 30 X-Markers who had expressed a serious interest in the event (E-mail addresses either known to me or extracted from member profiles here), the take-up response was very disappointing. However, I went ahead with the planning only to have several people either pull-out or declare themselves uncertain as to whether they might attend or not. This now left me with a situation where the group would be too small to attract special rates for catering and reduced entry prices for the venues we were to visit and, in fact, could not justify the time I had already spent on planning, researching local accommodation, etc. So, I have decided it best to postpone the event.

I have contacted separately everyone who originally confirmed attendance and most have indicated their wish to be included in the early June 2009 event.

No-one is to blame for this - these things happen - but I am hoping for a happier situation this time next year!

    Take care,
    Ham.

I must apologise for not having responded Hamish - my computer developed major problems that could only be solved by a complete re installation and although I backed up all my emails I must have missed yours in all the restoration process.

Plus when I found it I couldn't read it to begin with until I realised that I needed to download the Adobe Acrobat reader again due to the pdf format the info was in.

I was about to reply and confirm my interest when I saw the email about the postponement. I guess one extra wouldn't have made a difference to the decision though so hopefully it will all come together next year!

Please do not apologise, Trefor. I was disappointed that so few people actually responded to my original E-mails - not even to acknowledge receipt of my messages, let alone give me their decisions! However, I am sure that they had their reasons, and I know these situations can occur very easily. I am keeping everything (!) crossed for a success next year, and I will be announcing the precise dates later this year. So, watch this space!

I am sorry to hear of your computer problems, and here's me thinking I am the only fellow around here who has them! It was only after I began trying to send out 'Gathering' information as attachments that I discovered I needed Microsoft Office and Acrobat Reader in order to do so - and my PC had neither. Thanks to the generous help of friends I now have both but I am scared rigid when I look at 'Office'!! Life was SO much simpler before I was given my first PC as a retirement gift!!!

    Take care,
    Ham.

The problem free computer has yet to be invented Hamish!

I made the mistake of accepting some free security software from my ISP - British Telecom. I didn't like it and it slowed everything up so I uninstalled it only to then get error messages ever after and then Microsoft programs, including my email started playing up also and no attempt at running a restore worked so I had no option.

Still, should behave itself for a while now!

Disappointing there won't now be a gathering this year, but here's hoping for 2009 - maybe some can combine this with the Gathering of the Clans in Edinburgh.

A great idea, Alex, but the Edinburgh event** is not until 25th/26th July 2009 and I will be obliged to hold the Storrington event some six weeks prior to that. I will be announcing the actual dates within the next few weeks.

** which I am already booked for!

    Take care,
