    Lucy Goes to Scotland

In 1956, the famous tv show I Love Lucy did a special musical episode, "Lucy Goes to Scotland," in which Lucy travels, via dream sequence, to the home town in Scotland of her ancestor, Angus McGillicuddy.

While there, she met Scotty MacTavish MacDougal MacCardo (Desi), a Scotsman whose ancestors came to Scotland with the Spanish Armada.

    Here's a picture:

    Pretty good, for Hollywood.

And, a bit of kilt humor:

    Mayor: Hold your britches.
    Scotty/Ricky: What britches?
Mayor: The ones you're wearing under your kilts.
Scotty/Ricky: You're supposed to wear britches?

A little Brigadoonish but better than many representations!

I remember the Lucy Show very well but don't recall seeing this particular episode.

And after all these years, that show is still better than 99% of the drivel on TV today.

And I'm being generous with that 1%.

Not all American humour shows create laughter this side of the Atlantic but Lucy did.

I remember it being reported that the Queen was a huge fan of the show.

Lucy was one of the all time greats. I think nearly everyone appreciated her humor.
