Hello and a warm from rainy Boston, Massachusetts. If you have checked out the various threads on this site, you have been availed a wealth of information. I agree with you on the preference of pleat to sett, however, you should consult with your kiltmaker before the decision is finalized. There are some tartans that do not show off as well pleated to sett with knife pleats as would be with a box pleat or pleated to stripe. I have only seen the Isle of Skye pleated to stripe. Your kiltmaker can "do the math" and advise you if it is one of the tartans that does not do well to sett. You are investing a sizable amount of money on an item that is both a garment and a work of art. There are on this forum some excellent kiltmakers in the form of Barb, Matt, and Kathy, for the hand stitched work of art in wool tartan. Rocky and Kelly put out some premium kilts in PolyViscous. Check the advertisers here for the full range of ideas. Look over all the tartan options, weathered, ancient, hunting, dress, etc. When you do get your kilt, please put it on and get some pictures taken and post them here. We welcome you to the Rabble.
