I currently have 9, with another on order from Kathy Lare...Not sure how many more I will get...I guess since I won't admit to having a problem, I'm not ready to be healed.

Frankly, Captain, I don't believe you need healing. You don't even have one kilt for each month. I see no evidence that any of your dependents is suffering any hardship, economic or otherwise. I also see no reason that you should be obliged to conform to anyone else's ideas of proper attire.

My own opinion of kilt wearing is that its principal disadvantage is the cost of storage. A kilt requires no greater height of closet space than a pair of pants but it does require more length of the rod from which it hangs; sometimes even more than a suit requires.

I note that some libraries, instead of having an aisle between every two stacks, have only one aisle for eight to twelve stacks, using a crank-operated mechanism to move the stacks so the aisle is wherever it's needed at the moment. This arrangement should allow an ordinary bedroom to provide adequate storage for 500-600 kilts. I recommend it to your consideration.

I have 6 and that is too many. I'm an occasional wearer. I will get a few more because the tartan appeals to me or such but I'll never make it to 12. I can say this with all sincerity.

I'm down from 56 to 48 with one on order from Kathy Lare too.

One disadvantage of having so many kilts is that by necessity they spend a lot of time just hanging there.

Having sold off a bunch of kilts I'd outgrown, and wasn't wearing, I found it felt really really good to know that they were back in circulation and being worn by others.

So, the concept of rotating kilts came to me. In addition to "my" kilts - the special, meaningful, kilts (hand sewn, leather, semi-trads) maybe I could "rotate" my other kilts with other guys who happen to be my size.

Or, I've heard of teddy bear collectors who send their teddy bears to other members of teddy bear clubs in other parts of the world. The receiving teddy bear club member takes a bunch of photos of the teddy bear with their teddy bears and at important, historic, and beautiful sites in their area and send the bear and the pics back after a while.

So maybe we could do that with kilts...have fun and variety at the same time. So if someone was my size they could send a kilt to me to wear around the scenic canyonlands and take pics for them. They'd wear a kilt I sent them around their neck of the woods and take pics for me. We'd both get "new" kilts to wear for a while.

It takes trust for sure, but we certainly have that on X Marks.

I'm also considering selling some kilts I don't chose to wear very often and use the proceeds to buy a new kilt(s).

Guess the point is, there are lots of ways to get variety in your kilts without buying and holding them.

Of course if some daring soul could figure out how to make a living at it and start up an on line used kilt exchange we could all run our now too big or now too small kilts through there....kind of like book exchange at a used book store...

That's my plan for underwear. I need exactly 365.25 pairs. That way I only need to wash them once a year.

My question would be did you own 100 pairs of trousers before you wore kilts? If you didn't why do you need 100 kilts? And if you did well then you were seriously disturbed then and I can't help you now.
If I wear the same pair of jeans every day, most people will never know the difference. If I wear the same kilt every day, most people will know I only have one.

Also, I assume that those who would want 100 kilts probably won't restrict themselves to the $500 variety.

I have 2, and 3 more on the way, and possibly an x-kilt in the not too distant future. I know the 2 I have now are not enough, and I doubt that 5 or 6 will be enough either. My goal is to have enough non-traditionals that I can wear them daily. Since I am still waiting for my first to arrive, and they aren't cheap (hence the need for the diy) that's gonna be a while.

Really, I think it's a function of closet space. Calculate the total dimension of all your closets. Divide by the volume of one kilt to get your maximum kilt capacity. Subtract by (the number of jackets you have to own + (5 * shirts on hangers)). Finally, call the contractor to provide you with an estimate for converting your spare bedroom into a storage room.

    Regards,
    Rex.
Oh No! There's that algebra again No one said there would be math
It seems lately the only numbers I've needed were to be found on my credit card
My limiting factor is my wife, "What? How many kilts do you need?"

I have recently been struggling with this very issue. I have two from Matt, with a third in the works, and monday I got delivery of my first 8 yard knife pleated masterpiece from Barb T..

After wearing that around a bit, I think it is dawning on my why some of our Scot friends have only one or two. Had I bought that one first, I might not have been so keen on having so many in total, or in trying to learn to make them.

So I am at four really nice kilts, along with several more inexpensive purchased kilts, and all the ones that I have made in an attempt to find something that works for me in the shop, for a grand total of somewhere around 16 to 20, depending on how many of the "kilt like objects" I made that you count.

I have spent all my discretionary income for most of the last year and a half on kilts and kilt accessories. Kids aren't going hungry, or without shoes, but it has caused me to wonder 'bout myself a time or two.

Setting personal limits takes steely determination and the power of resisting temptation. Always remember that there is such a thing as a "baker's dozen."
