    Southwest Airlines and Kilts?

I have yet to fly in my kilt, but I wonder if this would happen to us kilted folks.

First, a 23-year-old waitress was booted off a Southwest Airlines flight. Now, two 18-year-olds claim they were discriminated against for being too pretty. And like clockwork, "too pretty to fly" took off.

I flew on SWA a while back and wore my kilt. I've also flown back and forth to America on KLM, NWA, Continental and Delta and I had absolutely no issues with any flight ever. The staff were always polite and friendly. My kilt only ever brought compliments.

I've never heard about any of these incidents. I might have to have a look for them.

    (Edited to add.)

Honestly, I think the waitress shouldn't have got any trouble at all.

As for the two 18 year old girls... Hmm. I made a point of reading 13, (count 'em, thirteen!) different articles about the incident and with each one I felt more and more like being pretty had little or nothing to do with it.
If someone were giving me unfair treatment on a flight I certainly wouldn't assume it was because they were jealous about me being young or handsome.

I fly SWA 4-5 trips each year and when I was dating my wife (Reno to Boulder Creek CA.) I flew every month. I have never had a problem except with TSA. A friend of mine is one of the supervisors and he always had me searched, so the people would understand how to search a guy in an unbifurcated garment ;). That aside, as long as you are not making a fuss, things should go well.

Happens to me all the time! I now have to book flights under one of my many assumed names, and then remember to take the proper picture ID, to match the make-up.

It's such a pain to be one of the beautiful people...

The only issue I had was with security. SECURITY! We have a kilt wearer! You must get your kilt checked, step over here... ok, the buckles set the metal detectors off. Can't remove them.

Have you ever watched the tv show Airline? How on earth do morons expect to be treated on an aircraft? My wife flew to pphoenix this week on Southewest, her first time with SW. She said she was treated very well, arriving early AT BWI, checking in and got her requested seat with leg room. The more polite you are with the crew, the more you get. As the old saying goes, "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar". When we flew to england with BA. my wife gave small gifts to the flight crew. They treated us like kings. In the end, It pays to be nice.

A trick I read about in a book is, when you show people your ID, show them your passport, but with a little foam clown nose glued to the picture. Whilst they are checking the ID, put a clown nose on yourself to match the picture. The source I heard this from has apparently received free upgrades and other perks from this. Apparently, airport workers appreciate a good laugh every once in a while.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried it myself (yet).

You have to be careful with things like this though. Some people have NO sense of humor. It could get you some "special attention" that you don't really want.

But, like has been said, be nice to the crew and they are much more likely to be nice to you. In my time here on this earth, I have seen those who demand things get exactly what they demand, but nothing more. Meanwhile, those who are being nice and respectful get that and a lot more.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with pretty and something to do with talking.....
