Yes you are right Grant it was Gardiner Greene Hubbard, father-in-law and financial backer of Alexander Graham Bell and first president of the Bell Telephone Company.
I was thinking of Bell's daughter marrying Gilbert H. Grosvenor who Bell appointed as Editor of National Geographic and who then oversaw the rise and expansion of the magazine. The editorship is still in the hands of the Grosvenor family today.
