Closing Scene
Ritchgarl Manor Apartment Building
I had taken Ms. Ritchgarl back to her residence, an upscale building owned by her parents corporation.
“I want to thank you so much,” she said to me outside her door.
I opened the door for her. “It was a privilege, all in the line of duty.”
“You’re not leaving already are you?” she asked.
“Yes, I’m afraid I have to go. Mike is due to call me at any moment.”
“But,” she said, reaching out to run her finger along the buttons of my shirt, “I haven’t found out what’s under your kilt yet.” She gave me a playful smile.
Just then my cell phone started to ring. I glanced at the caller ID. It was Mike.
I looked back at Emma. She had stepped into her apartment. She beckoned me inside with her finger.
I smiled back at her. “Mike can wait.” I stepped into the apartment, tossing my phone onto the small table there. I closed and locked the door behind me.
