Plans and I need input
Ok. so I am planning on going to st patricks day in my SWK Irish National. I decided to dress as formal as I can.
heres what I have:
Irish National Standard weight
white tux shirt
Black Kilt Jacket
Black 2 inch wide belt
black still water economy sporran
Irish National flashes
carmel hose
I am thinking of adding some white hose, and I was wondering if a Irish national neck tie would be too much?
do I go for the neck tie?
do I go for something more than that like a fly plaid or is that way too much?
I don't have a vest yet but I am looking for one.
thats what I have, but I went ahead and got some black accessories. I am looking for a vest, might even make one I have some very nice dark muted green fabric. but I want your opinions.
only I just thought about this and st. patty's is coming fast! so if I need to order something then I need to do it soon (tonight)
thanks!

For typical formal, a tartan neck tie might be a bit much. For your quasi formal, the fly plaid might be a bit much too, but for your special St. Patrick's Day outfit, I say go for it! The more green, the more better! If you have a green shirt and/or green hose and/or a green tam, add those on too.
Enjoy!

Unless you're attending a formal event, it's way too much. Showing up in black tie when everyone else is in Guinness T-shirts is as inappropriate as the inverse. Makes as much sense as attending in a wetsuit and SCUBA tank.

PiobBear makes good sense. You need to match what you are wearing withwhere you are going.
As for me, wearing a formal black jacket I would be wearing a black belt and sporran.

If it were me I would pair up the Irish National with a sweater and go casual, as what you have here is neither fish nor foul, and given the timing I doubt you would be able to get a true formal outfit together.

thanks for the advice. actually I won't be going to throw back at the pub, no, hehe, I'll be in school because I am still only 18. but just a few more years before that happens!
I still think I might get the hose and tie, but wear the tie when I can't wear the kilt...
thanks!

If you are going to school, make it a casual kilt outfit, you can pull that one off and you'll still be the best dressed in the room.

I agree with everyone's comments about going more casual. That said, I prefer to wear a regular black necktie with my Agylle jacket. It seems to make a nice bridge between the dressy and formal, without overdoing anything. Also, I hate bowties, so that's personal preference.

My avatar is Irish National with the necktie. This is the outfit I generally wear to church. The rest of the time, school (I teach part time), work, or just hanging out is with an open neck shirt or sweater, and scrunched hose. For the holiday I will be doing a green Henley top, green hose.
