Howie Nicholsby of 21st Century Kilts presents a tour of Geoffrey (Tailor) Kiltmaker's Edinburgh Old Town Weaving Company, at the top of the Royal Mile, right by Edinburgh Castle. Over 200 clan and family tartans are woven at the only working weaving mill left in the city and Howie tells us all about how it all works.

    Find the video here:

And there'll be more from Howie & family later this week.

    Enjoy!
Thank yopu so much for posting this..... it was great to see. I particularly like the brief glimpses of his kilt suit!

Alas very brief it was some way into the video before you saw his kilt.

Thanks for that one. I also had to go back and watch the two others featuring Howie.

BTW you also might want to check the Central News episode for 17 March. I think you have the wrong copy in there.

very interesting videos. It was nice to be able to actually see some of the process of weaving a tartan. I'll bet that is a fun place to visit and have a look around.

    Howie on Kilts...

    Thanks for all your comments.

This week, Howie Nicholsby speaks about the evolution of the kilt and, of course, where he sees the '21st Century kilt' going.

Just a note here. Scotland On TV has a LOT of archived content that is very interesting. Not long ago (from one of their newsletters) I found a four part special on Glasgow Central Station.

I've been in that station many times and its quite the engineering feat. Have a look at that one and while you're there take a look at more of the history videos available.

(The Station Hotel is another interesting venue. We've stayed there on a couple of occasions. BEWARE: Get a lower floor if you can. The hotel is under renovation. While all the rooms I've seen are quite fine the lifts are another matter. They can be more of an adventure than changing planes in Heathrow when British Airways is (as usual) over an hour late on arriving international flights. )

    Cheers. int:

P.S. A bit off topic but since I mentioned BA above I thought I'd add that if you are traveling from the US to Scotland do yourself a favor and use KLM (Royal Dutch Airways) and change at Schiphol in Amsterdam. Best airline experience I've ever had. Twice now.
