Kilt conversation in my local dollar store
Just had to share this with the rabble. I was in my local dollar store (where everything is only a dollar!) on Wednesday afternoon buying some snack food for knit night. I was in the checkout line and a pretty black woman was behind me. She complimented me on my kilt and asked about the tartan (I was wearing my Gunn Ancient). She then sighed loudly and said "I wish my husband was man enough to wear a kilt." I was taken aback, but quickly replied that kilts are 'chick magnets' and perhaps she wouldn't want her husband attracting the attention of other beautiful women. I paid the cashier and left, marveling once again at the power of the kilt.

Good for you! I receive many compliments from black women. I've found them very open-minded and positive about kilts.

There is something about dollar stores, black gals & kilts About a year ago I had a similar incident. She said she had seen men in kilts on T.V. but never in person and wanted to take a pic otherwise her hubby might not believe her. For a second she thought she had offended me by commenting, but I assured her that was not the case We had a laugh, a short conversation, then went on with our shopping.

I've always received excellent comments from black women. Including one woman who upon seeing me whacked the man she was with in the shoulder pointed to me and exclaimed, "Now that's a man".

What he said, as I have posted elsewhere at least once. "Yeah Baby, you got it workin'!"

I was getting hit on last night- with my wife present- on two different occasions. One was a blond at Disney On Ice (took the kids) and the other was a smokin' hot redhead at Bennigan's. Yes, the power of the kilt...
Onto the subject of black men vs black women and the attitudes I have encountered- Yes, black women seem to be very open minded about it. The men seem to have a serious chip on their shoulders (in general- not all by any means!) towards any thing that challenges their view of what is normal. It seems to me that there is a very regimented ideal of masculinity in their subculture. IN most cases once I explain to them what it is and what it means, they seem to be OK with it, especially when I bring up the fact that it's my way of expressing my own cultural pride. It seems to put it more into context or something for the ones who don't know what it is. That being said, the black guys I work with think that it's awesome the pride I express in my legacy. So this statement is more a general observation than anything else. And truth be told, I have more problems with one white guy than than I do with every black guy I work with combined!

I was walking through our town last night on the way to the Barleyjuice concert when one of the locals hollered a positive affirmation from the porch across the street. I really only count the positives, because the negatives are from brainless morons and they don't count.
