    Aye Niblox,

Pretty much my standard with a kilt anymore is solid black cotton Hanes.

I've found it does take the worry out of the wind and sitting - save the false accusations.

Well maybe this side of the pond we are less shocked by the concept of nudity and don't read sexual overtones into it as much and we know the difference between accidental and deliberate.

A friend and I did an experiment to see how easy deliberate flashing actually was in a kilt and it took a lot of artifice and artificial angles to produce such an effect. Such things as very low seating were required and an almost prone position on the part of the "researcher" so to speak.

Even accidental is also difficult and should it happen it's the blink of an eye and more likely to be rear than frontal. I have been to enough Ceilidhs with kilts being spun around with abandon and still nothing showing that might cause offense.

Anybody who makes accusations based upon what they "think" they saw should think again.

Thank you McClef for reporting the results of your field tests. You've validated what I "knew." The angles are all wrong.

Maybe a good response would be, "Excuse me, don't mean to interrupt, but did you ever take a course in geometry?"

Ron, you are spot on with this.
Some people just have overactive imaginations.
I have been wearing a kilt since I was a wee yin and and in every movement when I might reveal anything I am very careful to make sure I don't expose anything.

That said, every single time I have been told I was flashing, I have been wearing tartan boxers underneath my kilt!

    Tartan Boxers? Eeek!

Seriously though due to the length of many boxers there is much more chance of them being seen than what they are keeping warm!

Man, sometimes I think we here in the US are a bunch of prudish, immature, school children.
I think this hits it spot on,, personally.

Perhaps a bit of this comes from that stupid, poorly made, (In my opinion) Mel Gibson "Braveheart" movie.
In America alone,i would allmost bet it surprised a lot more people than we can imagine, that it not only surprised but shocked a lot of uneducated people about Scotland ,that the warriors in the moon shot did'nt wear underwear. What did they think they wear,Hanes underwear?
That movie could be in part lending to the question (Now that kilts are being seen more an more) is he wearing underwear?

In wearing a kilt, i think it is not only your own decision but your right to choose what you wear or not wear under your kilt.
But if you choose not to wear anything, than it becomes your responsibility not to expose yourself in public.
    Common sinse should rule:
If your going to a ballgame and your in the upper deck-please wear undies.
If your going golfing an its windy-wear undies.
If your going to a PTA meeting an your going to be seated facing the parents-Please wear undies.

And if someone sees your undies and screams flashing, tell them to grow up.

Taken from the Scottish Tartan Authority website, and written by the late Harry Lindley.
    Under the Kilt
"You're not a real Scot unless you're bare under your kilt" should be thrown into the same wastepaper basket as 'You're not a real Scot unless you put salt on your porridge' but it's a humorous subject that's always guaranteed to raise a giggle or a shriek . . . and even an argument!
Traditionally of course nothing was worn under the kilt and if history is correct and charging Scots threw aside their feleidh mhors, no wonder they had such success on the battle fields. That tradition was passed on to the Scottish regiments and nothing was worn under the kilt in military circles unless dancing was involved or public-access parades were taking place in high winds. On parades, the drill sergeant frequently attached a small mirror to the bottom of his pace stick so that he could, at a glance, check that soldiers on were correctly undressed.
We mere civilians have a choice to wear or not to wear boxer shorts or briefs. Common sense and a regard for others should rule the day. It's one thing to go 'bare' when hill walking but to do the same when attending an evening function that involved vigorous dancing, could lead to the charge of exhibitionism and scant consideration for the social comfort of others.

I would be tempted to tell them to grow up anyway.
