No problem when I first started looking for ghillie brogues, the woman who owned the store I frequented said that foot wear was one place the kilt was pretty open. In fact, she specifically mentioned that boots were OK. Actual words were "most people your age wear boots".
I've seen loads of people wearing kilts with books in Scotland.
So, I have been wearing the kilt for 24 years, but only recently started wearing ghillie brogues. Normally, I wore thick shoes or boots.
Now, Sandals cause me a bit of a problem.

Unless I'm dressing up, I wear boots. Period, end of sentence. I think boots look great with a kilt... hose up, hose down, or with regular socks... with a t-shirt or a polo or a sweater... Just wear the kilt and your boots, and wear them with pride.

Depends on who you ask. Some people will think that you dress like a kid when wearing a kilt with those boots. However, I think they will look awesome with the leatherneck kilts.

People are less likely to give you grief about a kilt when you're wear ****kicker boots. Those boots you poster are Goretex right?

The boots that are pictured are the issued ones they give us in boot camp. Now if you are in a cool unit or have the money, you can get oakley boots. But the most fancy boots I ever worn were steel toe and no they are not goretex boots.

Ryan, the ones I just bought are issue and are Goretex and leather construction. I'd love to get a pair of Oakely Assault Boots but just can't spend that much money in good conscience.

Boots with a Leatherneck.........yep it's a must!!
If you want a lighter boot, that is still fairly high quality, check out the 5.11 tactical boots. They have standard black as well a several in the desert coloration. They are comfortable (like tennis shoes), but are pretty tough too. I wear them for EMS as well as my regular job (unless I need steel toes) and they seem to hold up nicely.
