Pants - a question for the Kilted.

Quite a few proud kilt wearing members of the rabble wear their kilts to honor their heritage and reserve them for special times. I think Todd finds himself in plenty of good company here.

To me it isn't how often one wears the kilt, but the the pride and diginity it is worn with.

I'm usually kilted. But, there are times when I shouldn't be wearing a kilt. I sometimes do yard work in a kilt (and, no, I don't own a UK anymore, so it is a wool traditional that I wear. If I plan to be working in blackberry bushes, it's jeans. Also, when I'm doing auto repairs, jeans or a pair of shorts are a better choice.

I have one pair of jeans, several pairs of shorts (all in need of repairs), and a pair of dress pants I wore once.

I wear the jeans when I don't feel like standing out as much, when at family gatherings with certain jerks who will not stop bothering my mom (who supports my kiltedness) about my kilts, or when I need to get ready in under a minute. And of course, I have to stick to pants when it gets windy, as all my kilts are featherweights.

I don't have many situations wear the kilt is impractical or unsafe, so I wear mine about 4 or 5 days a week.

Would you care to explain your meaning behind this statement, Jay? I'm not quite sure I follow you.

Horses for courses and all that. One does not have to wear the kilt full-time to be a kiltie (to those who do, I say "Guid on ya", even though I choose not to!)

I now have only black jeans fro tru's. I wear them only to work. At all other times I am kilted.

Yesterday was one of those days when I decided to trou for a change. Partly since it was St. Pat's day, and partly because it was also a day when I was going to be working on brakes and suspension stuff. So, t-shirt and jeans. Didn't wear green either, since I always wear green, in the form of my eyeballs.

As much as I wear the kilt almost daily, it is always worn with pride and respect for its Scottish heritage. I do own trousers and a couple of shorts, as well as some "athletic wear". Heavy jeans are worn for the trips up my antenna tower, and for the heavy thorn bush pruning. I like the kilt for the feeling of walking a little taller and a little prouder.
I am amazed at the number of young men that are interested in it, and the wearing of it. I get many positive responses and many positive questions. I also enjoy being an "ambassador" for the kilt and its Scot origins. When I choose to not be bothered, I wear a plaid shirt and jeans. Just to blend in.

Ya, SteveB, some of the yard work requiers a swich over to overalls or jeans, but for a lot of garden activities, the knock-around-kilt is quite nice to garden in. For the most part, jeans don't fit (ME) well and also cause a whole number of problems (FOR ME). I hear you.
