Auld Lang Syne Manuscript
It was announced last week that an original manuscript of Robert Burns's Auld Lang Syne is to be removed from the Mitchell Library in Glasgow and displayed at the prestigious Grolier Club in New York as one of the star attractions of the Scotland Week celebrations from March 30.
The manuscript is valued at £250,000.
What is the Grolier Club and why is it so prestigious, can anyone enlighten me here?
I see that Tartan Week has been replaced by Scotland Week as apparently 'Tartan' was not recognised as being intrinsically Scottish, now the emphasis is to be put on creating more awareness of Scottish commercial and business activities rather than the celebration of Scottish culture and heritage, personnally I think this is the wrong way to promote Scotand as a place that people want to see and visit

Tourism for Scotland is of course a very valuable enterprise and everything should be done to encourage it,providing it is done with good taste and I hope it is brought very much to the fore. However there is much, much more to Scotland than just tourism and tartan and I for one would like to have ALL our good points recognised.

The Grolier Club is a great library/exhibition space etc, specialising in graphics and book arts, so the display of a manuscript is entirely within it's remit.
As a book binder I'd love to visit one day, kilted of course!
here is a link http://www.grolierclub.org/
