I know the chair is good for blunt force, but we carry the sgian duhb for a reason! Kidding....mostly.

I'm with James on this one. On my leather straps I arrange the buckle just to the side of the sporran so I can get them on and off easily. I made my own straps with a round section where the sporran goes, which allows the sporran to move more easily as I walk. The round section is just a few inches from the buckle.
My formal chain has the buckle in the back.

I usually wear center back, but James Mc and Tartan Hiker make great points about ease of use. Trying to feed the buckle through the belt loops and get it adjusted properly in the center of your back can be a challenge.
