Many of our our Scottish ancestors emigrated from Ireland to the US in the 1700's, many were Irish of Scots descent. During the Highland Clearances many of the Scots were sent to the plantations in Ireland. Keep digging deeper into your Crawford family, most likely they were Scots who were relocated to Ireland.
Warning: Genealogy is very habit forming.
