Neckwear to go with Isle of Skye
I have yet to go dressy with my new Isle of Skye from Locharron, but I am needing some advice on the right color complement for a tie. I intend to wear my charcoal tweed Argyle w/vest. I have a black wool tie and a red one that are kilt length. I also have plaenty of hose in different colors.
Is it better to try and match the kilt to tie or can one do hose and tie. flashes and tie etc.
Any opinions from the nattilly dressed rabble woul dbe appreciated.
( I want to shine for my daughters 14th birthday; dinner and Spamalot!)

I'd match the tie to the hose.

I prefer the Salmon tie but it might not suit the IOS!
Something fishy going on here!

Go with the the black tie to complement the charcoal jacket. Althoughh I prefer the look of Lovat Green with IOS, in this case i think charcoal hose would finish the outfit better. Or a dark green to go with the dark green in IOS

Lovat Green works well, or you can go blue, or even a violet colour for the tie, and I would second what Turpin says about the hose.

I don't wanna send my friend Ham over the edge into a death spiral - but danged if I didn't buy a Lochcarron Isle of Skye necktie at the Phoenix Games. Guessing you don't have much time for that.
Don't forget how well purple looks with the Isle of Skye...if they have purple ties at a tie store near you...

While I don't (yet) own an IOS, here's my thoughts;
I think with the charcoal Argyle/vest, and assuming a white shirt, for a nice balance I would go with charcoal hose and lovat or bottle green tie and flashes.
I might also try lovat green shirt and hose, with black tie and flash, although that might be better for daywear.

In my humble traditional opinion any tie you like, other than a tartan one.

I always wear solid color ties with my kilts. My suggestion would be to take your FLASHES (or kilt if the flashes don't have the color you want in the tie) to the store with you when going to buy the tie.
First choice for ME: Lovat Green (with the lovat green hose) to match the green in the kilt
Second Choice: the color of the single stripe.
Third Choice: Purple to match the purple in the kilt (if you will wear that much purple)
Fourth choice: Charcoal
Fifth Choice: Black.
Charcoal is above black b/c it's "softer" and goes better with the soft colors in the kilt. Black isn't BAD, but I think the charcoal would look better.
Also... a white shirt would be first choice, THEN a black one.

What Rocky Said.
For third choice, wear kilt to store and try out various muted purples. My favourite local shop has some neat ones with a grayish purple that has a muted weave of two very close shades on the diagonal.
Be creative.
