Advise for Puffer
I need your advise.
I was resently @ a business meeting. ( I was waearing my
"business" kilt outfit ( a Brown watch tartan kilt ( box pleat) with my tweed jacket & vest.) Another gentleman was wearing an outfit, that I would realy like to add to my wardrobe. He told me that he got it from "Tartankilt" ( House of edgar ??)
I found the items on their site http://www.tartankilts.com/acatalog/...rk_island.html
The tartans are " Herbridean" & the jacket vest are "Cail"
My questions are :
1. what is the quality of the material they make ??
2. W hat is the guality of the Kilts & jackets they make
3. How good of a co. are they ??
Thank you for your input.

I could not find that listed as a company when I used Google. Why not check out the folks at the top banner on this forum.

Unfortunately, I do not have experience with Tartankilts.com.
I do have a kilt made in the Hebridean Heather tartan from House of Edgar. I absolutely love the kilt; it was ordered through USA Kilts and made for them overseas.
The fabric is medium weight and I can feel the difference compared to say my Barb Tewksbury traditional. It's safe to assume that all of the Hebridean fashion tartans from HOE are the same. That aside, it's quality material, vivid coloring and one of my favorites now.
I had the intention of doing something similar to the Hebridean/Crail combo that's pictured on that site. I actually got my idea from a picture of AJ Callaway on the runway at Dressed To Kilt. It's billed as a 'fashion' tartan but it's quite civilized to me. Nothing gaudy or overtly non-traditional about it.
Hope that helps.

1. what is the quality of the material they make ??
I have four kilts tailored by this company, Puffer. The 'House of Edgar' is one of the most respected weavers of tartan known to man, and the quality is therefore First Class. The Hebridean tartans are woven in a medium weight cloth (12 or 13 ozs) which makes a really good kilt, although the swing factor may not be quite as effective as a heavier (18oz) one.
2. What is the guality of the Kilts & jackets they make
I cannot speak for their jackets as all of mine came from other sources, but their kilts are really beautifully constructed. It is extremely rare for kiltmakers to also make the jackets they sell - they out-source that side of their business to specialist tailors. In the case of TartanKilts, they are not going to risk handling poor quality items, and so I would say you could order from them with confidence.
3. How good of a co. are they ??
Because of the position they hold in the weaving world, there is little doubt that, as a Company, The House of Edgar/TartanKilts excel.
I hope that helps.
Take care,
Ham.

What they refer to on that website as a Crail jacket is actually a Braemar jacket, while their Argyll is actually a Crail!
